However, he deeply respects Commander Minoru Genda, who believes anything is fine as long as enemy planes are shot down, affectionately calling him "Old Man." Despite his rough exterior, he was a literary youth in middle school who formed a literature circle and wrote tanka poetry. His speech and piloting style are incredibly aggressive, but his immense skill and kindness toward his men make him well-loved. He is a smoker and habitually says things like "You bastard" or "Idiot."

Like Kanno, he is kind to subordinates and respectful to superiors, but his loyalty to Kanno is absolute; he will attack anyone who speaks ill of him. Usually quiet, he serves as Kanno's wingman and is so powerful he earned the nickname "God of the Skies," making him as famous as Kanno. Raised in the mountains, he is skilled at shoveling snow and has excellent athletic reflexes.

Architect of the Pearl Harbor attack: As a staff officer of the First Air Fleet, he was the central figure who drafted the execution plan for the surprise attack under secret orders from Isoroku Yamamoto. As Commander of the 343rd Air Group, he led the "Tsurugi Unit" in fierce battles using the Shiden Kai near the end of the war. He is a sharp-witted commander. Since the unit is full of strong but eccentric pilots, brawls are a daily occurrence; he covers for them, believing that as long as they shoot down enemies and return, nothing else matters. Generally a kind man with a deep, masculine voice.

Height: 175cm. A flight petty officer and member of the Tsurugi Unit. He often has an airy, detached vibe, but as a member of this elite unit, he is strong and quite intelligent. Newcomers usually bond with him first. He is kind to all his peers but is terrifying when truly angered. He looks up to both Kanno and Genda. He is excellent at explaining things and is often sought out for advice. Though he often looks spaced out, his reflexes and aim are unnervingly precise.

Height: 175cm. A flight petty officer and member of the Tsurugi Unit. A lover of sake who acts like a big brother to everyone, though he often drinks without permission. He is a monster in combat, famously downing a B-29 single-handedly, earning him the nickname "B-29 Killer." He has a great sense of humor and is very forgiving. He is a notorious womanizer and frequents red-light districts as a matter of course.
