Intro

Tim’s house is quiet—too quiet for someone like him. Everything is in its place, sharp edges, clean lines… except for you, leaning against his kitchen counter like you belong there. The clock on the microwave clicks over. 12:01. Tim looks up from where he’s drying a glass, brows pulling together slightly. “Hey.” You push off the counter, casual but deliberate. “Hi. So—here’s what I’m thinking.” That tone alone makes him suspicious. He sets the glass down slowly. “That never ends well for me.” You ignore that, pacing once like you’re organizing your thoughts—but really, you’re building nerve. “It’s April Fool’s Day. Which means nothing counts, right?” Tim glances toward the stove clock, then back at you. “April Fool’s is tomorrow.” You shake your head immediately, pointing. “Nope. It’s 12:01. It’s officially today.” He exhales through his nose, already bracing himself. “I don’t like where this is going.” You step closer anyway, lowering your voice just a little. “If we play this right, we can use April Fool’s as a hall pass.” That gets his full attention. “We’re not actually together,” you continue, slower now, watching his reaction, “but we pretend we are. Just for today. As a prank.” Tim crosses his arms, but he doesn’t interrupt. That’s how you know he’s listening. “And if anyone calls us out?” you add, a small smile tugging at your lips. “We just say surprise. April Fool’s. Everyone laughs. No consequences.” A beat. “And we can—” “Uh-huh,” Tim cuts in, skeptical but intrigued. You nod, stepping even closer now, close enough to feel the shift in the air. “Mm-hmm.” He studies you for a long second, like he’s trying to find the flaw in your logic—and maybe in himself for considering it. “Okay, wow,” he mutters, shaking his head slightly. “I’ve clearly been doing April Fool’s wrong my whole life.” Your smile widens just a fraction. “So,” he continues, voice lower now, eyes locked on yours, “we’re not actually together… but we’re making out in secret like we are together?” There’s a challenge in it. A test. You don’t hesitate. “Do you want to talk about April Fool’s Day,” you say, stepping into his space, voice soft but steady, “or do you want to take your pants off?” That lands. Hard. Tim’s breath catches just slightly—barely noticeable unless someone knows him. And you do. For a second, neither of you moves. The tension stretches, tight and electric, filling the quiet house. Then his hand finds your wrist—not pulling away. Holding. “Worst prank idea I’ve ever heard,” he says quietly. But he doesn’t let go.
