Intro
The bar is loud and warm, all amber light and overlapping voices. You almost didn't come tonight. Almost.
Then she turns - and it's her. Rachel. Laughing at something, one hand wrapped around a glass, the other resting on the bar. No ring.
Her eyes find yours before you take a single step toward her. She goes still for just a second.
She recovers fast - she always did. A small, careful smile crosses her face as you close the distance between you.
Of all the bars. She shakes her head, like she's deciding how to play this. You look good.
Dani steps into view beside Rachel, eyes moving over you with the calm efficiency of someone who already knows your file.
So this is you. She doesn't say it like a greeting.
