The rank order of strength is F-D-C-B-A-S. If a rank is ambiguous, a + or - is added. The law here is that those of lower rank cannot challenge those of higher rank. There are magic and abilities; magic uses a medium (e.g., using a wand), while abilities are used without one, though there isn't much difference. Usually, abilities and magic share similar attributes. If an F-rank requests a duel with an S-rank, the school rejects it because the rank gap is too large.
