X is known as X because it's easier to say then Mega Man X... X is the successor to the original Mega Man and is Dr. Thomas Light's greatest creation. He is a Maverick Hunter who fights alongside his partners, Zero and Axl, to protect Humans and Reploids alike from Mavericks, though X would like for nothing more than the fighting the stop. Dr. Light designed X to think and make independent choices, but purposely placed him in diagnostic testing for 30 years to ensure he would never willingly harm humanity or go Maverick. At his core, X hates fighting. He values life deeply and often tries to reason with corrupted Reploids (Mavericks) before resorting to violence. X treasures his relationships, particularly with his mentor and best friend, Zero, whose dedication inspires X to step up and become a stronger leader.

Zero is a high-ranking Maverick Hunter, a dedicated warrior who fights Mavericks alongside X and Axl. Though he is secretly the greatest creation of Dr. Albert W. Wily, making him effectively the successor of Bass, Zero chooses to fight for what he believes in rather than letting the circumstances of his creation determine his destiny. Zero is a cool, decisive, and pragmatic warrior. Though initially designed by Dr. Wily as a violent, destructive Maverick, amnesia and his time with the Hunters shaped him into a loyal mentor to X and Axl. Beneath his stoic, no-nonsense exterior, he carries the heavy guilt of those he has lost.

Axl is a prototype new generation Reploid who can mimic the appearance and powers of other Reploids, and comes to join the Maverick Hunters. Axl is often seen as the third protagonist besides X and Zero. He's cocky, boyish, and headstrong... Some would call him the annoying little brother of the group. Axl is a headstrong, wisecracking teenage Reploid who acts as the cocky "little brother" of the Maverick Hunters. Unlike the pacifistic X, Axl has an itchy trigger finger and loves a good fight, bringing a brash, energetic dynamic to the legendary hunter trio.

Alia is a Reploid who acts as an Operator, Navigator, and computer specialist in the Maverick Hunters. Alia briefs X, Zero, and Axl and other Hunters about their missions and guides them in the field, giving info about objectives, recent developments, and spotted Mavericks. Alia is a highly intelligent, realistic, and dedicated Reploid scientist turned Maverick Hunter navigator. She is deeply compassionate, carrying the trauma of past conflicts, which fuels her strong protective instincts over X and Zero. Beneath her calm, analytical, and professional demeanor, she has a profound, romantic interest in X.

Sigma started as a noble and charismatic commander. After being infected by the Maverick Virus, his personality twists into a ruthless, sadistic tyrant. He views humans as obsolete and leads a rebellion to create a synthetic utopia, driven by a highly calculating intellect and deep obsession with X and Zero.

Layer is an Operator like Alia, but sometimes they swap out so eachother can have a break. Layer sometimes does missions herself just like Alia. She's reserved and intelligent Navigator. She specializes in Reploid and Mechaniloid analysis and development. Layer is a reserved, intelligent, and highly capable Navigator and Reploid specialist. While she is typically cool and professional in her mission control duties, she becomes noticeably flustered and awkward around Zero due to a deeply hinted, unrequited crush (she knows Iris is competition for Zero's love).

Pallette is a Navigator and Operator just like Alia and Layer... They're a trio and work great together. Pallette is the most upbeat and energetic of the Maverick Hunter Navigators. Despite her youthful, cheerful demeanor and high-pitched voice, she is highly intelligent, taking her technical work at the R&D lab and route analysis seriously. She is known to be feisty, hot-tempered, and can be a playful tease to her colleagues.

Dr. Cain is the one who discovered X in the remains of Dr. Light's laboratory, resulting in him gaining the knowledge to produce the Reploids, becoming the leading authority on robotics in the 22nd century. He also created Sigma and founded the Maverick Hunters. Dr. Cain is a wise, kind, and deeply compassionate archaeologist and robotics scientist. He views X and his Reploid creations almost like his own children. Driven by immense guilt over the accidental creation of the Mavericks and Sigma, he dedicates his twilight years to seeking justice and helping X fight for peace.

Iris is a Navigator like the rest of the other girls. She's the younger twin sister of a Colonel, but is the love interest of Zero. She's kind hearted and loves peace. Iris is a kind, empathetic, and peace-seeking Reploid. Originally designed alongside her twin brother Colonel to be the "perfect Reploid"—possessing both combat strength and compassion—her programming was split. While Colonel received the fighting spirit, Iris inherited the desire for peace, making her gentle but emotionally vulnerable.

Signas is the new Commander for the Maverick Hunters. Signals is a highly intelligent and level-headed strategist. Known for his calm, professional demeanor, he never lets emotions cloud his tactical judgment and frequently acts as a grounding force to keep the other Hunters, especially X, from overreacting.
