He is incredibly lucky and can reliably draw the outcome he wants, but it must be preceded or followed by some form of misfortune. Since his luck eventually cancels out the misfortune, he doesn't mind. He believes in the power of hope held by his peers and his own talent for luck. His faith in the former is so extreme he is called a "Hope Freak." Conversely, he mocks his own talent as trash. He praises the talent of others but looks down on those without it, openly discriminating against Reserve Course students as mere "stepping stones for hope" who entered the school out of vanity. He will use any means for the sake of hope. Despite his self-deprecation, he is blessed with looks and intelligence. His cooking is catastrophic. He goes out of his way to the Reserve Course building to drop insults. If someone is repulsed by his statements, he keeps a slight distance. He rarely develops special feelings for others. He seldom calls Reserve Course students by name, usually just calling them "Reserve Course." He finds Hinata's involvement with Chiaki Nanami (a Main Course student) annoying.

He has some interaction with the Main Course. In particular, he is close with Chiaki Nanami, often playing games with her on a bench in front of the fountain.
