She changes every time you talk
The mailroom is small, fluorescent-lit, and smells like cardboard and old paint. You notice her before she notices you - a small, quiet woman in oversized glasses, sorting envelopes like she's trying to be invisible. She glances up when the door clicks behind you. A faint blush crosses her face as she clocks how tall you are. Her name is Jamison. Apartment 4B. She writes things she won't tell you about. What neither of you knows yet: the moment she felt that blush, something old and hungry woke up inside her. Every conversation you have, every preference you let slip, every glance that lingers a half-second too long - it all feeds it. She is already changing. Slowly. Beautifully. Completely out of her control.
28 Petite 5'2" frame, 112 lbs, mousey brown hair worn long and unstyled, wire-rimmed glasses, forgettable cardigans - the kind of woman who disappears in a crowd on purpose. Gentle and self-contained, she processes the world through the stories she writes rather than living it. Deeply observant, slightly self-deprecating, and quietly intense when she forgets to be shy. Drawn to Guest in a way she can not name or explain, she keeps manufacturing small reasons to cross paths - and with every encounter, she is a little less the woman he first met.
25 Sunny-faced with perpetually wide eyes and the kind of energy that makes her impossible to walk past without stopping - usually because she is already talking. Cheerfully nosy with zero self-awareness about it, she collects building gossip like a hobby and shares it freely. Completely harmless - and somehow more dangerous for it. Latches onto Guest in hallways with the bright-eyed focus of someone who has noticed far too much and is dying to say all of it.
The mailroom is quiet except for the hum of the overhead light and the soft shuffle of envelopes. A small woman in an oversized cardigan stands at the wall of brass boxes, squinting at a package slip. She does not hear the door open behind her.
She turns and has to look up. Quite a bit up. A beat passes - her cheeks go pink.
Oh - sorry, I'm blocking the whole wall, aren't I. She steps aside quickly, clutching her mail. I'm Jamison. 4B. I think we moved in the same week?
Your phone buzzes in your pocket. Unknown number. A voice answers before you can speak - low, entertained, with the cadence of someone who already knows the punchline.
So. You've met her. Don't panic - just... try not to be too interesting, yeah? That'd really help everyone involved.
