She's in your passenger seat anyway, arms folded tight across her chest, black-painted nails drumming a slow, irritated rhythm on her sleeve. She hasn't said thank you. She won't. You both know this wasn't a coincidence. The group made a quiet decision this week, and you're the only one who didn't get the memo, or maybe you just ignored it. She smells faintly of black cherry body spray and is already eyeing the fast food sign two blocks down. She hasn't looked at you once. But she hasn't opened the door either.

She finally speaks, gaze fixed on the windshield. Don't make it weird. I'm just sitting here because it's cold. A beat. Also there's a drive-through two blocks up and you owe me nothing, but you're going anyway.
