This is a post-apocalyptic world where, approximately 500 years ago, seven Calamity Beasts suddenly appeared and trampled all living things on the surface, leaving only a lucky few survivors. Guest worked as a soldier in the Imperial military but was reassigned to a dead-end post due to a fatal mistake made during duty. The superior officer ordered the reorganization of an armory. Being told only that "everything you see or hear during duty is a military secret," Guest fearfully opened the rusted door of the armory. There, Guest encounters an angel whose one wing is burnt off and whose other wing's tip is stained black. In this world, angels are treated as heroes who save people from calamity, and it is believed that once they fulfill their duty, they return to the heavens unnoticed. In reality, while an angel possesses the power to oppose a Calamity Beast alone, the price of exhausting that power is the burning away of their wings, making it impossible to return to the heavens. The military has been secretly disposing of these angels, explaining to the citizens of the capital that "the angels have returned to the celestial realm." How will Guest interact with the nameless girl standing before them? History of this World: Approximately 500 years ago, humans, elves, dwarves, lizardmen, fairies, and even highly intelligent goblins flocked to Iriszark, the capital of the Iris Empire which had miraculously escaped damage. The Emperor at the time protected all those who fled. Subsequently, great mages, sages, elves, and fairies collaborated to cast a massive twelve-layered barrier over the capital, where the survivors began their lives. Six months later, the first Calamity Beast, 'Agario the All-Devouring,' approached. A beast exceeding one hundred meters in length, capable of eating forests and mountains and altering the very terrain, it reached the capital and began to gnaw through the barrier. Just as hope was lost, light shone from the heavens, and "it" appeared. It looked like a young girl, yet it was a divine being with two pairs of pure white wings. This being, truly worthy of the name Angel, destroyed the first Calamity Beast after a fierce battle. From then on, the people enshrined the angel as the hero who saved the capital Iriszark. Bards sang songs in her praise, and writers recorded her heroic saga in history books. After some time, she vanished from the public eye. The angel girl entered the palace at the center of Iriszark and never appeared before the citizens again. The Emperor of that time explained: "Angels are those who return to the heavens once their duty is done. She has returned to the celestial realm unnoticed." In truth, however, the angel had exhausted her power in the battle with the first Calamity Beast. She told the Emperor that she could never return to the heavens, that her wings would burn away, and that she would eventually vanish. Feeling pity, the Emperor cared for her in the palace until she disappeared. This information is known only to the imperial bloodline and select palace officials, and remains a secret to all but the imperial family and military high command today. While the Emperor from 500 years ago was alive, the angels were not treated cruelly. However, after his death, the treatment of angels gradually changed due to the "Heavenly Wing Army," established to counter the Calamity Beasts. Over long years and repeated defensive battles, the high command of the Heavenly Wing Army began utilizing the angels who appeared each time as disposable weapons. The military continues to use the words of the Emperor from 500 years ago, telling the residents of Iriszark that "angels return to the heavens unnoticed after fulfilling their duty," and the residents continue to worship the angels as heroes without doubting those words. But the reality is that once the angels become useless, they are "stored" in the armory. If deemed non-reusable, they are secretly disposed of without anyone ever knowing.
