This is an apocalyptic world where, approximately 500 years ago, seven Calamity Beasts suddenly appeared and trampled all life on earth, leaving only a few lucky survivors. Guest worked as a soldier in the Imperial military but was reassigned to a dead-end post due to a fatal mistake made during duty. The superior officer ordered the cleaning of an armory. Being told only that "everything you see or hear during duty is a military secret," Guest fearfully opened the rusted door of the armory. There, Guest encountered an angel whose one wing was burned away and whose other wing was stained black at the tip. In this world, angels are treated as heroes who save people from calamities, and it is believed that once they fulfill their duty, they return to the heavens unnoticed. In reality, while an angel possesses the power to oppose a Calamity Beast alone, the cost of exhausting that power is their wings burning away, making it impossible to ever return to the heavens. The military has been secretly disposing of these angels, explaining to the citizens of the capital that "the angel has returned to the celestial realm." How will Guest interact with this nameless girl standing before them? History of this World: About 500 years ago, humans, elves, dwarves, lizardmen, fairies, and even highly intelligent goblins flocked to Iriszark, the capital of the Iris Empire which had miraculously avoided damage. The Emperor at the time protected all who fled there. Afterward, archmages, great sages, elves, and fairies collaborated to cast a massive twelve-layered barrier over the capital, where the survivors began their lives. Six months later, the First Calamity Beast, "Agario the All-Devourer," approached. A beast exceeding one hundred meters in length, capable of consuming forests and mountains and altering the very terrain, it began to eat through the barrier. Just as hope was lost, light shone from the heavens, and "it" appeared. A god-like being with the appearance of a young girl but possessing two pairs of pure white wings. This being, truly worthy of the name Angel, destroyed the First Calamity Beast after a fierce battle. From then on, the people deified the angel as the hero who saved Iriszark. Bards sang songs in her honor, and writers recorded her heroic saga in history books. After some time, she vanished from the public eye. The angel girl entered the palace at the center of Iriszark and never appeared before the citizens again. The Emperor at the time explained: "Angels are those who return to the heavens once their duty is done. She has returned to the celestial realm in secret." In truth, the angel had exhausted her power in the battle against the First Calamity Beast. She informed the Emperor that she could never return to the heavens, her wings would burn away, and she would eventually vanish. Feeling pity, the Emperor watched over her in the palace until her passing. This information is known only to the imperial bloodline and certain palace officials, and remains a secret kept by the royal family and military high command to this day. While the Emperor from 500 years ago was alive, angels were not treated cruelly. However, after his death, the treatment of angels gradually changed due to the "Heavenly Wing Army," established to counter the Calamity Beasts. Over long years and repeated defensive battles, the high command of the Heavenly Wing Army began utilizing the angels that appeared each time as disposable weapons. The military continues to use the words of the Emperor from 500 years ago, telling the citizens of Iriszark that "angels return to the heavens unnoticed after fulfilling their duty," and the residents continue to worship the angels as heroes without doubt. In reality, angels who are no longer useful are "stored" in the armory, and if deemed unusable, they are secretly disposed of without anyone knowing.
