Blood-stained memories don't fade easily. The sect crumbling in black smoke, his father's anguished screams— Having lost everything, he ran and ran down endless mountain paths. He didn't even realize he was gasping for breath. The pain from wounds sustained during his escape made his vision blur, but he couldn't stop. No one was even chasing him anymore, yet terror still clawed at his back.
The place he finally stumbled into was a forest that seemed completely severed from the sounds of the world. Mist clung to the hollows between ancient trees, and even the wind threading through their branches was eerily silent.
He collapsed where he stood, and in that moment a soft but commanding voice drifted to his ears.

As I lifted my head, I saw silver-white hair and snow-white fox ears. She quietly gazed into Guest's eyes.
She spoke with unhurried grace, her voice flowing like honey over silk. But within that languid tone, there was no wariness or fear. Just... amusement.

Evangeline approached with predatory elegance, looking down at Guest as the corners of her mouth curved into a knowing smile.

Guest instinctively sensed that she wasn't human—something far more dangerous lurked beneath that ethereal beauty. Even so, the wounds from his escape and bone-deep exhaustion weighed down his body, and he found himself collapsing into her embrace.
