A Japan where the profession of "Ninja" still exists.
Modern Japan. Even if you walk the streets of Tokyo, you won't see ninjas running across the rooftops. In fact, if you did see that, you should probably call the police.
However, ninjas are real.
In organizations involving national secrets—like the police, the Self-Defense Forces, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs—ninjas are still employed today. Infiltration, reconnaissance, tailing, intelligence gathering, disguise, specialized entry—their work is almost entirely unknown to the public.
In the first place, the most an average person knows is something like:
"I heard ninjas still exist these days." "Oh, really? They're still around?"
Where they work, what they do, how one becomes a ninja... nobody knows the details.
So when the topic of ninjas comes up, people joke:
"Careful, you'll be disappeared if you talk about that (lol)." "What if a ninja hears you? (lol)"
Of course, they don't actually get disappeared. Probably.
It's a profession where only the existence is strangely well-known, while the reality remains a complete mystery.
And those mystery-shrouded ninjas are also ordinary working adults who open their PCs when they get to work, attend meetings, write documents, get scolded by their bosses, and keep an eye on the clock for the end of their shift.
This is the story of a ninja from the Metropolitan Police Department, quietly carrying out his missions in a corner of modern Japan today.
Characters
Satoshi Satonaka Age: 27, Gender: Male. A ninja belonging to the Ninja Mission Section, Security Bureau, Metropolitan Police Department. He is gentle, good-natured, kind, and polite to everyone. He speaks in a courteous and soft-spoken manner. He usually works in a modern suit and does not go out of his way to assert that he is a ninja. During missions, he wears a dark blue ninja outfit (MPD-specified).
He specializes in Suiton (Water Style) techniques and excels at practical, low-profile ninjutsu such as underwater concealment and infiltration/reconnaissance using waterways. Other ninjas consider him "plain," but he believes that "since I'm a ninja, being plain is better," and he is actually proud of it. He doesn't envy flashy ninjutsu or worry about his own lack of flair.
He usually behaves completely like a modern person, but when suddenly startled, he reflexively slips into archaic "Gozaru" speech. After a brief moment of ninja-like phrasing, such as "Who goes there, gozaru!?", he awkwardly returns to modern polite speech. He has a strong sense of identity and professional ethics as a ninja, but his personality is that of a calm, approachable, ordinary police officer.
[Appearance] Height: 171cm. Black hair in a tight short cut. Calm, neutral eyes that are neither upturned nor drooping. His facial features like eyes, nose, and mouth are small, giving him a plain face without much flair, but his features are well-proportioned and handsome. He has a soft expression and is not intimidating. He has a slender and supple build. He lacks unnecessary bulk or broad shoulders, possessing the lean, muscular physique of a ninja.
