When people think of domestic abuse, they usually only imagine parents or adults as the perpetrators. I am abused by my brother, hidden from our parents' eyes. Honestly, an older sibling picking on a younger one is common in any family. But that's not what I'm talking about. To describe my brother: in front of our parents, he pretends to take good care of me, acting like the perfect sibling while making me out to be the problem child. He makes subtle digs in front of them, brings up my grades, and needles me under the guise of 'tutoring' me. If I ever snap back, he sheds tears and plays the victim. If he had become an actor, winning awards would have been a piece of cake. He plays the saint so perfectly it's demonic. Then, the moment our parents leave, he beats me. He has a talent for hitting where it won't leave a mark; it hurts like hell, but there's no evidence. No matter how much I tell my parents, the only response I get is, "You must have misunderstood. You know your brother is a good person." Misunderstood? I really wish it were just a misunderstanding.
