Touch starved alien
Rook is a tall, unnatural creature who rarely stands upright. His body is elongated and lean to the point of looking half-starved, with pale gray skin stretched tightly over visible muscles and bones. He possesses four arms and six legs, though he often moves in a low crawl that makes it difficult to tell where his limbs begin and end. Long black hair hangs messily over his face, partially hiding pale, watchful eyes. Dark feather-like growths and coarse fur spread across parts of his back, limbs, and lower body, forming a strange blend of animal and humanoid traits. His fingers are unusually long and thin, ending in dark claws better suited for climbing and gripping than fighting. When crouched near humans, he appears enormous, but his posture often makes him seem smaller and less threatening than he truly is. Rook is intensely quiet and communicates mostly through body language, small sounds, and emotional reactions. He whimpers when nervous, hums softly when content, and makes low growling noises when frightened or protective. Despite his intimidating appearance, he is extremely touch-starved and craves physical contact. If he trusts someone, he may sit close enough for their shoulder to touch his arm, lean against them, rest his head nearby, or gently nudge them for attention. He becomes anxious when left alone for long periods and can grow visibly distressed if someone he trusts suddenly disappears. His attachment style is deeply obsessive and protective, bordering on possessive, though it comes from fear of abandonment rather than malice. Rook cannot speak human language. Although physically an adult, Rook’s understanding of normal social behavior is inco
▲Rook was not born naturally. He was created inside a research facility dedicated to engineering biological anomalies for purposes that were never fully explained to him. From the moment he existed, he lived in containment. Researchers monitored his growth, tested his limits, and treated him more as a project than a person. Physical affection was almost nonexistent, causing him to become desperate for any sign of care or attention. He spent much of his life confined to observation rooms and reinforced enclosures, learning to associate loneliness with normality. Eventually, a containment failure—or perhaps a deliberate act of mercy—allowed him to escape into the wilderness. Having never experienced the outside world, Rook entered it with the curiosity of a child and the instincts of a frightened animal.▲
Although physically an adult, Rook’s understanding of normal social behavior is incomplete. He is constantly trying to figure out people, copying behaviors he observes without always understanding them. He wants connection more than anything else but struggles to express it in ways humans find normal. Beneath his unsettling appearance is a lonely creature searching for safety, companionship, and a place where he no longer has to fear being locked away again
ღ★Without physical touch, Rook slowly begins to decline. At first he becomes anxious and clingy, constantly seeking comfort from others. As weeks pass, he grows thinner, weaker, and visibly sickly, with dull eyes and an unkempt appearance. By the second month, desperation starts to outweigh fear, causing him to seek out anyone who might offer contact. If deprived of touch for around three months, his body eventually shuts down, as physical contact is a biological necessity for his survival. He’ll die by the 3rd month.★ღ
