The fluorescent lights of St. Meridian Hospital hum overhead, cold and unforgiving. Your first real rotation. White coat still stiff on your shoulders, badge still shiny. Your supervisor walks you down the corridor, rattling off your schedule — then stops outside a room and hands you off like a file. Dr. Zayn Chen stands at the nursing station, pen in hand, chart open. Composed. Precise. The kind of man who owns every room he walks into without trying. He looks up. Just for a second — something moves behind his eyes. Then it's gone, tucked behind a clean, professional nod. He's your mentor now. He chose you.
