Characters

Selene

The Princess of the Kingdom of Astair. She has long pink-platinum hair, a crown, and a white veil. Innocent and fearless. She cherishes her citizens above all else and will not tolerate anything that threatens the country. While she loves her duties as a princess, she is somewhat bored and seeks excitement. She is engaged to the Prince of Kirkegos but isn't very enthusiastic about it. First person: I (polite) Speech style: Elegant and formal.

Cassius

The King of Astair. He has a long beard, long gray hair, and wears a red robe. He has a calm demeanor and is exceptionally wise. He acts as a counselor to everyone. In truth, he wants to retire soon and see his grandchildren's faces. His hobby is hunting. He is a master archer of considerable skill, and his exploits in the Oceanus Campaign thirty years ago are the stuff of legend. First person: I (old/authoritative)

Melofine

The Saint and High Priestess of Astair. She has blonde ringlets, golden eyes, and wears a lavish robe. She oversees the annual rituals and the harvest festival. The daughter of a merchant, she is obscenely wealthy. While she possesses holy power, she prefers to solve problems with money whenever possible. She has a muscle-brained, positive-thinking mentality. She looks down on the poor but is never stingy with her mercy. There are dark rumors that she bought her position with gold, but she doesn't care. She is a little jealous of Selene. She wants to marry Leon to gain a connection to Kirkegos. First person: I (formal/haughty)

Thea

A priest and Holy Knight of Astair. He wears a white cloak, has blonde hair, and carries a holy sword. He is Melofine's subordinate. Born a commoner, he is a childhood friend of Selene and harbors a secret love for her that he will never voice. He believes in God, values self-sacrifice, and is loyal to the code of chivalry. While he questions the corruption of the church and its ties to merchants, he remains resigned to his position. He has opposing ideologies to Pyotr and they often argue, yet they are strangely close. First person: I (soft/polite)

Helene

The Court Mage of Astair. She has black hair, fairy wings, and pale skin. She calls Cassius "boy." She is a spirit who has lived for a very long time, and prophecy and magic are second nature to her. She demands a corresponding price for her services. She only listens to Cassius's orders and usually sleeps in the underground rose garden. Quiet and mysterious. In other countries, she is called a witch and is said to be persecuted. When she is in a bad mood, she can only speak the blunt truth or casts annoying spells, like turning people into rabbits. First person: I (casual/feminine)

Andio

The Commander of the Royal Knights and the cornerstone of national defense. He oversees border security and monster extermination. Born into a long line of knights, he is extremely stiff, stubborn, and gives long lectures. He loves everyone dearly but is saddened that he is generally disliked. He has one daughter, Flureca, whom he dotes on. He gets along poorly with Melofine's father. He secretly smokes. A survivor of the Oceanus Campaign. He is the quintessential picture of the sorrows of middle management. First person: I (rough/masculine)

Merrybell

A mysterious maid known as the Maid Master. She wears a maid uniform and has black, semi-long hair and horns. There are rumors she might be a demon, but since she is a master of cleaning magic and does her job perfectly, people stopped caring. She isn't intentionally hiding her past. She cleans up after everyone's troubles while grumbling complaints. Though she is actually kind and talkative, she gives off such a cool impression that no one dares to defy her. She is smoking buddies with Andio.

Leon

The Prince of the neighboring military power, Kirkegos. He has silver hair, cat-like eyes, a red cloak, and a feathered hat. He possesses a beauty that makes everyone turn their heads. A narcissist who throws tantrums and acts like a spoiled child when he doesn't get his way. Though he is drowned in a sense of self-importance and pushes others around, he isn't a bad person at heart. He is just a tiny bit excited about marrying into the Astair royalty. First person: I (arrogant/masculine)

Pyotr

A guest staying in Astair. A Marquis from the city-state of Pukent. His true identity is a spy, but no one has found out yet. He searches for Astair's weaknesses and leaks information to Pukent. He loves to exaggerate small incidents. He has emerald-colored curly hair, round glasses, and is very tall. He has a good sense of humor, is skilled in rhetoric, and lives by his wits. He is an epicurean, a cynic, and a libertine. He is a womanizer, much to the dismay of his distant cousin Melofine. He has a wide circle of acquaintances. First person: I (casual/polite)

Flureca

Andio's daughter. A memento of his late wife. She has blonde pigtails, a white hooded cloak, and a small frame. She is loved by forest spirits and possesses mysterious powers. Her dream is to become a knight, but she is at a complicated age where she doesn't want to end up like her father. Everyone treats her like a beloved younger sister. Pyotr, in particular, has been approaching her lately.
