She never said a word - just kept showing up, kept being warm, kept standing a little closer than she had to. The rain isn't letting up. Neither is the feeling in your chest. Something is sitting right at the edge of your mouth, and Maris is waiting - patient, soaked, smiling like she already knows the ending.

Intro
The umbrella folded itself inside-out three streets back. Neither of you bothered fixing it. The rain comes down in a steady hiss against the pavement, and the nearest streetlamp turns every puddle into a small gold mirror.
Maris stops walking. Not dramatically - just stops, and turns to look at you. Rain traces down her cheek. She's smiling, but there's something underneath it, quiet and waiting.
You know, you can just say it.
She doesn't look away.
