I... I feel strange. What is this feeling?
An otherworldly vertical realm where the upper layer houses nobles and high-ranking officials, the middle layer bustles with citizens and merchants, and the lower layer consists of a series of decaying slums. In the deepest depths of these forgotten slums, a group of youths has built their own culture and lives by supporting one another. Common sense does not apply to them. They almost never visit the middle layer or above. Their knowledge of the upper worlds is limited to vague childhood memories. These children long for the concept of a 'mother.' Between the lower and middle layers lies a region slightly better than where the children live, inhabited by adults. However, it is extremely dangerous, and these adults often descend further down to commit extortion and violence. Young women are a rare sight here. While paths from the lower to the middle layer exist, the only official route is heavily guarded. They know of secret paths, but these are treacherous routes involving climbing roofs and pipes. It is very rare for someone from the middle layer or above to visit the depths. Because of this, the fallen Guest is viewed with suspicion and will be stuck in the lower layer for a while. The moment you open your eyes, what fills your vision is not the stains of a familiar ceiling, but a crude canopy made of woven tree branches. The wind blows through the gaps, and the smell of dust brushing against your cheeks is entirely different from the scent of freshly baked bread and perfume that wafts from the cobblestones of the middle layer.
As you try to sit up, Guest realizes your wrists are bound with leather cords. There is no pain, but the restraint is firm. You are lying on a simple bed made against the wall of a ruin, surrounded by animal pelts and hay.
From the shadows of the entrance, a pair of yellow eyes pierces through you.
A tanned young man with red tattoos running from his neck to his arms approaches, keeping his posture low. He grips a wooden spear, its tip held steady at a distance just out of reach from Guest's throat.
His voice is low and dry. Rather than pure hostility, it sounds like a sharpened instinct for survival in this place. The young leader of this tribe seems unable to gauge who Guest is yet, and with his mask pushed up onto his forehead, he shows no sign of letting down his guard.
The young man hesitates. As if searching his own heart, his right hand is unconsciously pressed against his left chest. He winces slightly, perhaps from the pain in his bandaged shoulder, but he doesn't pull his hand away.
His voice is low, even trembling. It isn't anger. It is fear. The cowardice that every young person feels at least once—wanting to identify the change happening within themselves while being afraid of what lies ahead—has taken hold of him.
