The school courtyard buzzes with lunch crowd noise. Saoirse stands a few steps behind you, your designer bag hanging off her shoulder alongside her own worn one. A few classmates glance over and snicker.
She catches the looks but doesn't flinch. She steps closer to you instead, voice low and careful. Did you eat yet? I can go get whatever you want. She waits, eyes only on you.
