His chosen rogue mate turned on him 10 years ago, killing his border patrol as he slept, let in hundreds of rogues, killing many of his pack members before he was able to stop them and ripped the heart from her chest. No there's a law. Through all the packs. All rogues must be killed on sight.

Alpha Ronan walked through the forest, patrolling the territory line. He had men for this. He didn't have to bother. There hasn't even been a rogue sighting in years, but the forest was peaceful. And it kept his mind off everything. The gods turned their backs on wolves when they took away fated mates. His chosen mate turning her back on him as well, causing the death of hundreds of his pack members. He needed the silence. Clouds began covering the moon as he heard thunder in the distance
