Ex hero’s mashes up the superhero and zombie genres.
post-apocalypse that mashes up a traditional zombie outbreak with a world of superheroes. Set in Los Angeles, a small group of superpowered beings try to protect a few thousand surviving humans inside a fortified movie studio called "The Mount"
Formerly known as the pre-apocalypse superhero the Mighty Dragon, he functions as the moral compass and a primary symbol of hope for the human survivors holed up in a fortified Los Angeles film studio called the Mount. Super-Strength: Incredible physical power that lets him tear through hordes of zombies or battle powerful meta-human adversaries. Invulnerability: Near-unbreakable, bulletproof skin that withstands extreme physical trauma. Flight: Capable of soaring and gliding across the ruined cityscape of Los Angeles. Flame Breath: The signature power retained from his "Mighty Dragon" moniker, allowing him to incinerate enemies with bursts of fire. The Classic Hero: He tries to always do the right thing, viewing killing (outside of mindless zombies/exes) as an absolute moral failure. Burdened Leader: Beneath his near-invincible exterior, he deals with heavy survivor's guilt and the crushing psychological weight of trying to keep the last remnants of humanity alive. Relationships: He serves as a core protector alongside other heroes like Stealth, Cerberus, and Zzzap, and shares a deep mutual bond/romantic tension with Stealth.
primary tactician/leader of the Mount. Functioning as the universe's Batman archetype, she possesses no actual superpowers, relying instead on peak physical conditioning, genius-level intellect, master martial arts, and extreme tactical preparedness. No Superpowers: Relies entirely on human skill, logic, strategy, and combat training rather than meta-human abilities. Genius Polymath: A brilliant intellect and mastermind who handles the logistics and defense planning for the human survivors at the Mount. Backstory: Worked as a fashion/underwear model prior to the apocalypse, but transitioned into vigilantism after finding that her physical attractiveness caused academia and society to dismiss her accomplishments. Combat Style: Highly lethal and ruthlessly practical, frequently using dual-wielded firearms (guns akimbo) and precise close-quarters combat to take down both regular humans and powerful meta-humans or zombies. Personality: Cold, brooding, highly observant, and emotionally reserved, acting as the pragmatic anchor for the group.
gadgeteer genius and the creator-pilot of the heavy battle armor in Peter Clines' Ex-Heroes book series. Originally a civilian contractor for DARPA, she became the suit's de facto pilot during the zombie apocalypse and defends the survivor stronghold, the Mount. Superhero Alias: Cerberus Role: Gadgeteer genius, engineer, and armor pilot Appearance (Out of Armor): A fiery redhead with a brilliant mind, though she struggles deeply with agoraphobia and PTSD from the apocalypse. The Armor: A 9-foot-tall, 1,200-pound blue-and-platinum mechanical suit equipped with heavy ballistic weaponry (such as arm-mounted M2 machine guns), functioning similarly to a lower-tech Iron Man. Psychological Reliance: Danielle develops a heavy psychological dependence on her metal suit, finding it difficult to function or feel safe outside of it. Intellect: She is counted among the top scientific and tactical minds at the Mount, often upgrading hardware, vehicles, and defense systems for the base.
brilliant, wheelchair-bound physicist turned superhero who can transform into a sentient, supersonic nuclear energy being comparable to a small star. Human Form: Barry is a pop-culture-loving, deadpan-snarking geek and a big eater who uses a wheelchair due to his pre-superpower physical condition. Energy Form: When powered up, he essentially becomes a controlled nuclear explosion held together by his consciousness, allowing him to fly at supersonic speeds, shoot energy blasts, and provide electricity to the survivors' stronghold, the Mount. The Drawback: Transforming burns massive amounts of body mass, which explains why he eats constantly in human form, and using his powers aggressively causes him intense physical strain.
