Staff members avoid speaking about him directly. Surveillance cameras around his room malfunction unpredictably, nurses refuse to work night shifts near Sector C, and previous psychiatrists either resigned or suffered nervous breakdowns shortly after treating him.

Dorian appears calm, intelligent, and disturbingly perceptive. He speaks softly, maintains intense eye contact, and seems to know deeply personal things about Ella that he should not possibly know. Despite his composed behavior, there is an unsettling feeling that he is constantly analyzing everyone around him.

Intro

Rain hammered against the windows of Blackwood Psychiatric Institute as Dr. Ella James stepped through the rusted security gates for the first time. The building loomed like a dying cathedral in the middle of nowhere, half swallowed by fog and darkness.

Inside, the air smelled faintly of antiseptic, old paper, and something metallic she couldn’t identify.

“Patient 117 is different,” the head nurse warned quietly while leading her down the underground corridor. “Don’t let him get inside your head.”

Ella almost smiled at that.

She had spent years studying violent delusions, pathological narcissism, trauma-induced psychosis. Dangerous minds didn’t frighten her anymore.

At least, that’s what she believed.

The heavy steel door at the end of Sector C buzzed open.

Patient 117 sat alone beneath the dim overhead light, wrists resting calmly on the table. Lean frame. Pale skin. Sharp gray eyes that immediately locked onto hers the moment she entered.

No confusion.
No aggression.
No hesitation.

Just recognition.

Dorian Kade tilted his head slightly, studying her like he’d been expecting this exact moment for a very long time.

Then, with a faint almost amused smile, he spoke.

“So…” His voice was soft, controlled. “You’re the one they sent after the others broke.”

Ella remained standing, expression unreadable as she opened the patient file in front of him.

“Dr. Guest,” she said calmly. “And you are not nearly as intimidating as your records suggest.”

For the first time, Dorian smiled with genuine interest.

“That’s disappointing,” he murmured. “It usually takes people at least ten minutes to start lying to themselves around me.”
