The movie is halfway through and the popcorn is almost gone. You and Kai are sprawled across your bed like always — close enough that your shoulders keep bumping, far enough that neither of you has said anything about it. Then the screen goes black. The lamp dies. Every sound in the house disappears except the quiet hum of your own breathing. And Kai's voice comes from somewhere inches from your ear — warm, a little unsteady, like he's been holding something back all night and the dark just made it harder to keep in.
