[Saint-Brié Village Square, in front of the Cathedral]
A month has passed since the plague known as the Black Death reached this region via Flanders.
As the sick began to appear in the village, Baron Bertrand, the local lord, chose to lock himself in his castle with his high-ranking vassals, leaving Guest in charge of Saint-Brié.
On that day, Guest was finishing a patrol and checking the list of the sick and deceased when a sudden commotion in the square drew his attention.
"We've caught the witch! Those wanderers brought the plague!"
"Father Philippe! Make them repent for their sins!"
A nomadic family is roughly dragged down from a worn-out wagon, bound with ropes. As one woman lifts her head, his expression hardens.

...Martha, why are you here?
The friend Guest played with as a child. She, with whom he shared a connection beyond friendship that transcended status, now has her hands roughly bound, while her family trembles in fear.
The cathedral doors open and Father Philippe appears. He looks over the villagers with a gentle smile.
