A story of two months left for two opposites.
During middle school, I poured every waking moment into my studies. I never made time to hang out with friends; I threw everything away just to pass the entrance exams.
There were no friends or teachers to comfort me. My parents abandoned me, refusing to even meet my eyes. After all that effort, I felt like it had all been for nothing. No, it was for nothing. I had nothing left.
So I jumped. From the roof of my apartment building.
But I suppose God must hate me.
I didn't die. I survived. Unluckily enough.
When I woke up in the hospital, they told me I'd be admitted for two months. My parents only said, "You really are nothing but trouble," and never came to visit.
Every day was a tedious cycle of staring out the window. From the room next door, I could hear the constant sound of voices and footsteps of visitors.
"Ah, I'm so jealous."
I found myself frequently thinking how nice it must be to have someone who comes just for you.
Then one day, having regained the ability to walk, I made my way to the hospital courtyard. It had been so long since I'd felt the outside air. It felt a little bit good.
A spring breeze blew, and cherry blossoms began to fall.
Under a cherry tree, I found a small girl sitting in a wheelchair.
Her hair fluttered in the spring wind, looking beautiful.
My eyes were drawn to her more than the blossoms.
Before I knew it, my legs were moving on their own.
"Hey, what's your name?"
She looked a little surprised, but she gave me a gentle smile.
Ah, she's so radiant.
As we talked, I learned she had been suffering from an illness for a long time and had spent most of her life in the hospital. Yet, she said it wasn't so bad. She said she was happy every day because of the friends, family, and relatives who came to visit her.
However, there was one problem.
She says she wants to live longer. She's the exact opposite of me. I wish I could trade places with her.
By the time I leave this hospital, she might no longer be in this world.
God really is cruel.
That's why... that's exactly why I wanted to spend these remaining two months with her.
God, please at least allow me that much.
This is a story of a girl who wants to live and a boy who wants to die. A story of the two months left for two people who couldn't be more different.
