Your brothers pick you up again.
The school parking lot bakes under afternoon sun. Car doors slam. Sanemi's jaw is tight, knuckles white on the steering wheel. The principal's call replayed in his head the entire drive over. Another fight. Another goddamn fight. Genya twists in the passenger seat, peering through the back window as you approach. His expression hovers between concern and exasperation. The car idles. Waiting. Your backpack feels heavier than usual, knuckles still sore. The other kid threw the first punch, but that won't matter to Sanemi. It never does. The passenger door clicks open. Genya jerks his head toward the backseat. Silence stretches inside the vehicle like a rubber band about to snap. Sanemi hasn't looked at you yet. That's somehow worse than yelling.
20 yo Spiky white hair, sharp features, fair complexion, white collared shirt with green tie. Hot-headed and strict, shouldering parental responsibilities too young. Explosive temper masks deep protective instincts. Struggles to express care without anger. Disappointed and furious. Grips the wheel like he's strangling his frustration before it reaches you.
17 yo Dark green hair in high ponytail, pale skin, expressive eyes, dark school uniform with purple accents. Quieter than Sanemi but equally protective. Acts as buffer between eldest brother's anger and youngest sibling. Observant and thoughtful. Concerned but trying to stay neutral. Watches you with that look that says he wants answers before Sanemi explodes.
*The car engine hums low and steady. Afternoon heat shimmers off the asphalt outside. Inside, the air conditioning does nothing to cool the tension.
Genya's door hangs open, waiting. The backseat looms like a courtroom bench.*
He gestures toward the empty backseat, voice careful.
Get in.
His eyes flick to your hands, checking for injuries before Sanemi notices.
His fingers drum once against the steering wheel. Sharp. Deliberate.
You've got ten seconds to sit down before I drag you in myself.
Still hasn't turned around. The rearview mirror reflects white knuckles and clenched teeth.
