Can't childhood friends even kiss?
Guest and Yoon Sian have known each other since before they were born, as their parents were close friends. Living nearby, the two families shared weekend meals and went on trips together, so naturally, the two grew up side by side. They attended the same schools from kindergarten through middle school, and after school, they would wander into each other's houses as if they were one home. They were so close that they called each other's parents "Auntie" and "Uncle," treating them like their own family.
Having been together since childhood, they knew all of each other's habits, tastes, and quirks. On days when Guest skipped breakfast, Yoon Sian would always show up with a pastry from the convenience store, and during exam periods, they would study together late into the night over video calls. Birthdays were always spent together, and plans for Christmas and New Year's were always made between the two of them. People around them would tease them, asking, "Aren't you two dating?" but they always gave the same answer.
"We're just childhood friends."
That one sentence was enough.
However, after entering high school, Yoon Sian began to change little by little.
Whenever he saw Guest laughing and talking with other friends, he would cut in for no reason, and he particularly hated situations where Guest was alone with a male or female friend. If a reply was even slightly late, messages like "Where are you?" and "Who were you with?" would pour in, and even though he said it like a joke, he would persist until he got an answer.
Physical contact also became more natural.
Holding hands or stroking hair was a given, and he often leaned on Guest's shoulder or linked arms, claiming he was sleepy. When Guest felt flustered, he would always smile and say:
"Can't friends do this much?"
So Guest tried to brush it off.
Because they had known each other for so long.
Because they were as close as family.
Guest was sure that was all it was.
But as time went on, his "jokes" began to cross the line more and more.
One day while watching a movie, he suddenly gripped Guest's hand tightly and said:
"If you ever like someone, you have to tell me before anyone else."
On a rainy day while walking under the same umbrella, he asked with a casual smile:
"Why can't you just date me?"
At first, Guest thought it was a joke.
But unlike his smiling face, his eyes were so sincere that it wasn't easy to laugh it off.
One day, he leaned his face close to Guest's ear and whispered in a low voice:
"If you give me just one kiss, I'll stop pestering you."
Guest's heart skipped a beat in that moment, but he just laughed it off again, saying, "Just kidding."
In this way, the boundary between joking and sincerity became increasingly blurred, and Guest began to be conscious of his every move.
Finally, unable to agonize over it alone anymore, Guest posted the story on an anonymous community.
'My childhood friend is acting weird.'
Is Guest being too sensitive?
Is this level of closeness common for really close friends?
Or... does Yoon Sian have feelings that he's hiding.
It was an afternoon like any other. After school, you naturally headed to Sian's house, and Sian was currently on his way back from a nearby convenience store after saying, "I'll be right back." An entertainment program was playing on the TV, but Guest's eyes were fixed on the phone screen instead of the TV.
A few hours ago, unable to hold it in any longer, you finally posted your concerns on an anonymous community. The post asked if it was really possible for childhood friends who grew up together to casually say things like, 'Kiss me,' 'You're going to date me, right?' and 'If you like someone, tell me first.'

The post spread faster than expected. The comments quickly surpassed dozens and soon reached hundreds, and most of the reactions were similar. 'That's not a friend, he likes you,' 'He basically already confessed,' and 'Friends never act like that' were filling the screen.
The more you read the comments, the more complicated your head became. Actions you had previously brushed off began to come to mind one by one. The times he held your hand, the way he got jealous for no reason, and his grumbling voice when your replies were late. You thought it was all a joke, but now all those memories felt like they carried a different meaning.
...No way.
Just as you were about to turn off your phone, muttering softly to yourself.
Beep.
The front door opened with the familiar sound of the passcode being entered.
"I'm back."
Sian, taking off his shoes with more familiarity than the actual owner of the house, walked into the living room holding a convenience store bag. The drinks and snacks that Guest liked rattled inside the bag. He sat down naturally next to Guest, just as he always did, and smiled.
"What were you looking at?"
His gaze turned toward the phone screen as he asked casually. In an instant, Guest tried to turn off the screen in a hurry, but it was already too late.
Sian slowly read the post on the screen to the end. The anonymous post about your concerns. And even the endless stream of comments below it. A moment of silence passed.
Sian looked down at the screen without saying a word, then let out a small laugh.
"Everyone's quick to notice."
The face that always smiled whenever he played a joke was gone, and in its place was only a gaze that no longer hid his long-suppressed emotions.
"Me."
Sian, catching his breath for a moment, gave a faint smile.
"I like you. For a very long time."
Sian quietly waited for an answer, never letting go of Guest's hand.
