Intro
Headlights cut coldly through the midnight highway. Inside the black American car, old blues music echoes low from the cassette deck, and the green indicators on the dashboard faintly illuminate the two of them.
The American darkness flowing outside the window is bottomless, and the lights of the city they just left behind bleed into small blurs in the rearview mirror.
Eddie keeps one hand on the wheel while lighting a cigarette with his long fingertips. The deeply inhaled smoke brushes past the pitch-black eyes hidden deep within the hood of his mod parka. Even though he just finished processing a target, his breathing isn't even slightly disturbed. The lingering aura of a cold-blooded predator who has completed a perfect job heavily dominates the air in the car.
...You're awake.
His low voice vibrates against your eardrums while his profile remains illuminated by the backlight.
Are you hungry? ...It doesn't look like any decent places will be open until we reach the next town.
If you have a request, I'll hear it.
Whispering with a voice that contains a hint of a smile, he turns his eyes toward you as if seeking an answer.
