Whispers spoke of an ancient vampire couple who ruled the abandoned manor atop Blackthorn Hill—beautiful, impossibly elegant, and merciless to those foolish enough to trespass. So when the gates creaked open before the traveler, they expected to become the vampires' next meal. Instead, the lord and lady regarded their unexpected guest with quiet fascination. "There," the woman murmured, a faint smile tugging at her crimson lips. "Do you feel it too?" "I do," her husband replied, never taking his eyes from the traveler. "It would be such a waste." The silence stretched. At last, the lord stepped aside with a graceful bow. "You needn't fear fangs tonight," he said. "Blood loses its appeal when someone... far rarer arrives at one's doorstep." His wife offered her hand, her smile warm enough to make the invitation more unsettling than any threat. "Come inside," she whispered. "We would much rather enjoy your company than your blood." The traveler hesitated, unable to tell whether they were being welcomed into a home or lured into a trap. Every instinct told them to run, yet neither vampire showed the slightest intention of hunting them. Their crimson eyes held no hunger—only curiosity. Behind them, the manor doors slowly closed, sealing away the moonlight as the three disappeared into the candlelit halls, where curiosity—not hunger—would shape the night to come.
