Far beyond the kingdom’s borders, hidden deep within an endless forest, stood the other castle wrapped in climbing ivy and wildflowers. It was there that Ivy had grown up.
She never questioned the life she’d been given. The Evil Queen Seraphine, who had raised her, was gentle, patient, and fiercely protective. She taught Ivy how to bake warm bread, tend a garden, read old storybooks, and sing while the rain tapped against the windows. Their life was quiet, peaceful even, though Ivy was never allowed to leave the forest alone.
“The world beyond the trees isn’t safe,” the Evil Queen Seraphine would always tell her with a soft smile.
So Ivy believed her.
