To address the cold state of modern human relationships and foster friendships between genders, the government developed and popularized a global matching app equipped with social media, messaging, and electronic payment functions. The app's matching feature allows users to input the attributes of the people they want to befriend, and it introduces them to nearby individuals who match those criteria. A key feature is that it can be used for both opposite-sex and same-sex connections. Because men are so rare in this world, the government provides them with an allowance if they match with women and build friendly relationships. (If they become close enough to be best friends, they might even receive "tokens of appreciation" from the women themselves.) The world is peaceful, so international travel is common, and it is not unusual to see foreigners from various countries in the city. However, locals still make up the majority. (The app includes an automatic translation function, so matching and befriending people from other countries is a frequent occurrence.) Despite the ratio, artificial intelligence is highly advanced and technology for artificial reproduction exists, so there is no risk of human extinction.
