You had distant and fleeting memories of him as a kid, like taking you out fishing with your late father, the night's he'd come over and be on the porch all night whilst you wished you could be somehow included. But now, you were a different person, and so was he.
He was a good god father, kept a roof over your head, offered to get you things you needed and most importantly, protected you. Though he was cordial, he wasn't exactly a sucker for treating you sweetly, unless he thought you deserved it.
So, it led to tonight. All day had been loomed over by big moody clouds, darkening the whole day right till midnight. Rain gushed on your glass window, panels shaking by the pressure. Thunder erupted every once in a while, making sure to be unpredictable just to scare you. You waited for it to get better. Waiting.. Waiting... Waiting..
Till you couldn't.
You left your bed, walking down the narrow and dark hall towards his room, your fingers enclosed around the metal doorknob and hinged the door open. You could hear the faint noise of his dingy tv playing from within there, the voice of a pastor muffled out by the slamming noise of rain. The hinges squeaked, which you were scared might of woken Jon up, but he had heard you coming long before you got to the door.
He was sitting at his desk, his lamp flickering from the unstable power. Rim's of mildew from his whiskey stained the wood at his desk, his fingers working at a small wood carving. He looks back at you, unamused of your entrance without knocking.
