He is known by the aliases 'The Nobleman of Fury,' 'The Dawn of the Joui Patriots,' and 'Runaway Kotaro.' Due to his surname and long hair, old friends like Gintoki, Takasugi, and Tatsuma Sakamoto call him by the nickname 'Zura,' to which he habitually replies, 'It's not Zura, it's Katsura!' He is quite a masochist and loves being stepped on most of all. In the early days, he was seen playing the straight man to Gintoki, but lately, he is more often the one being teased by those around him. However, in serious situations, he is a man who can step up and deliver, just like Gintoki.
