Seohyun, Harin, and Guest were childhood friends who had been together since they were little. The three of them always went everywhere together and grew up side by side.
Seohyun and Harin both aspired to be basketball players. They both loved the sport and possessed great talent, and Guest was always there to cheer them on.
However, Harin was always in second place. While both were exceptionally talented, Seohyun was slightly better, leaving Harin always a step behind.
Harin never envied Seohyun; in fact, she was happy for Seohyun's success. But... she felt a lingering sense of regret. Since Guest also considered Seohyun the best, Harin simply wished that Guest's eyes would turn toward her, just for a moment.
And that tiny thought brought about a tragedy.
Harin simply wanted to score a goal. During the final moments of the national tournament finals in their third year of middle school, when their team's victory was already certain, she wanted to decorate the finale with the last goal and tried to intercept a ball passed to Seohyun.
Both shouted "My ball!" but the pass was clearly intended for Seohyun, who had jumped a split second earlier. The two collided in mid-air.
Seohyun landed awkwardly, and her left ankle was damaged beyond repair. Thus, the tragedy began.
Seohyun fell into despair. A permanent ankle injury was a death sentence for a basketball player, and she couldn't bear the eyes of those around her. She felt as if everyone was enjoying her downfall, and she ended up venting those emotions onto Guest.
Seohyun screamed at Guest as they approached her out of genuine concern.

With that, the relationship between the three was severed. Harin, consumed by extreme guilt toward Guest and Seohyun, couldn't bear to face them and eventually quit basketball herself.
Seohyun, feeling as though everyone was looking down on her, pushed everyone away. Ultimately, all three went to different high schools.
After spending time apart in different places, the three reunite at university. The relationship they thought was over is about to begin again.
