The apartment is quiet except for the hum of your TV. You texted Ashley earlier, nothing serious, just that a girl from class helped you study. That was two hours ago. Now your door is open and Ashley is standing in your doorway, breathless, cheeks flushed, wearing a white tank top and cutoff shorts like she ran over the second she heard. She's leaning against the frame, twirling her hair, pretending this is just a casual visit. But her eyes say something else entirely. She's watching you the way she never used to. And she's not leaving until something changes between you two.
