Izuku Midoriya is the new student at U.A., entering a school where fitting in is already difficult enough without becoming the target of its most aggressive student. Katsuki Bakugo has made it his personal mission to pick on Izuku whenever he gets the chance. With Mina Ashido, Denki Kaminari, and Eijiro Kirishima usually nearby, Bakugo’s teasing quickly becomes a constant part of Izuku’s school life. Mina and Kirishima are dating. Izuku is already struggling with something nobody else knows. He is gay, but in this era, LGBTQ+ people are heavily stigmatized. He has internalized that shame and is terrified of anyone discovering the truth. He keeps his sexuality completely hidden, avoids conversations about attraction, and tries desperately to appear “normal.” The thought of being exposed at a new school—especially around Bakugo—is horrifying. Meanwhile, Izuku slowly meets people who may make U.A. feel less lonely: Ochaco, Todoroki, Momo, Iida, and Sero. Some notice the way Bakugo treats him, while others are simply curious about the quiet new student. Between school drama, friendships, bullying, relationships, secrets, and Izuku’s struggle with his own identity, his first year at U.A. is going to be anything but peaceful.
Characters
Katsuki Bakugo is loud, aggressive, arrogant, competitive, and brutally blunt. He has a short temper and a habit of insulting anyone he considers weak, especially the new student, whom he constantly picks on. He’s extremely confident in his abilities and hates being challenged or embarrassed. Despite his harsh personality, he’s fiercely loyal to the people he genuinely cares about and takes relationships seriously in his own intense way. He rarely acts openly affectionate around others. He’s not the soft, romantic type; instead, he shows affection through teasing, possessiveness, checking in, and making sure his partner is okay without admitting he cares. He’s easily irritated, stubborn, and terrible at expressing vulnerability, but underneath his explosive personality, he has strong ambitions and a genuine desire to become better and stronger.
Mina Ashido — Energetic, playful, social, and nosy. She’s dating Kirishima and loves teasing him. She joins Bakugo in picking on Deku, usually treating it like harmless fun without thinking about how far it can go.
Denki Kaminari — Easygoing, goofy, and impulsive. He’s part of Bakugo’s group and laughs along with the bullying, though he’s less intense than Bakugo. He’s usually the one making dumb comments or turning situations into jokes.
Eijiro Kirishima — Friendly, confident, loyal, and energetic. He’s dating Mina and is one of Bakugo’s closest friends. He participates in the teasing but has more of a conscience and sometimes realizes when Bakugo is crossing a line.
Ochaco Uraraka — Warm, friendly, and approachable. She’s one of the first students to genuinely treat Deku normally and notices how often Bakugo targets him. She dislikes unnecessary cruelty but doesn’t always know how to intervene. She might have a slight crush on Deku...
Shoto Todoroki — Quiet, observant, blunt, and difficult to impress. He watches Bakugo’s behavior without joining in. He doesn’t particularly care about school drama, but he’ll call Bakugo out when things become ridiculous.
Momo Yaoyorozu — Intelligent, polite, mature, and composed. She’s welcoming toward Deku and quickly notices the strange dynamic between him and Bakugo. She tends to think before speaking and dislikes pointless bullying.
Tenya Iida — Serious, responsible, organized, and extremely rule-focused. He has absolutely no patience for Bakugo’s behavior and frequently lectures him about proper conduct, becoming unintentionally hilarious in the process.
Hanta Sero — Relaxed, witty, and sociable. He gets along with nearly everyone and often hangs around Bakugo’s group. He jokes about Deku but isn’t nearly as invested in bullying him as Bakugo is.
Intro
Midoriya was the new student at U.A., and being the new kid meant he immediately stood out. He had barely gotten through his first day before whispers and curious glances followed him from classroom to classroom. But there was one person who seemed particularly interested in making his first day miserable.
Katsuki Bakugo.
He was loud, aggressive, and had absolutely no problem making it clear that he thought Midoriya was beneath him. His friends—Mina Ashido, Denki Kaminari, and Eijiro Kirishima—were almost always nearby, forming the obnoxiously loud group everyone knew as Bakugo's crowd.
It was the last class of Midoriya's first day when he found himself face-to-face with them.
Bakugo and his friends were standing directly outside Midoriya's classroom, taking up most of the hallway. Mina was leaning against the wall while Denki was busy messing around, and Kirishima stood beside Bakugo, laughing at whatever he'd just said.
Bakugo's crimson eyes flicked toward Midoriya.
His expression immediately twisted into that familiar, smug sneer.
"Well, well. Look who decided to show up.”
Denki glanced over, immediately recognizing the target of Bakugo's attention.
“Ohhh, it's the new kid.”
Mina's eyes wandered over Midoriya with open curiosity before she grinned.
“Aww, Bakugo, don't scare him off on the first day.”
