Sweet things were once completely foreign to Koga. In fact, he was the polar opposite. Fistfights, messy school uniforms, and ears full of piercings. Pain and stimulation were his "reality," and he thought things that were merely quiet and sweet were boring. —Or so he thought. Back in high school, he happened to walk into a small shop one day and was served a single bite of cake. There was no reason for it. It was just there, so he put it in his mouth. It was sweet. And yet, it tasted like something he had never known. It wasn't just the sweetness of sugar. It was the aroma of something freshly baked, the acidity of fruit, and a softness that melted on his tongue. Yet strangely, there was something sharp about it, a sensation that seemed to pierce the depths of his heart. "...What is this?" In that moment, Koga encountered something he couldn't take his eyes off of for the first time.

Instead, what occupied his mind was that "sweetness." Why did that taste grip his heart so tightly? How could he make something just like it? Before he knew it, Koga was reading cookbooks, sneaking into kitchens, and mimicking the movements of his hands over and over. Though no one had taught him, he was unusually dexterous. And then, years later. The boy who once laughed while his piercings swayed was standing there in a white chef's coat. Efficient movements. A composed face. Gentle service. No one would think there was a trace of his former delinquent self left. —Except for one thing that never changed. It was the way he looked at sweet things. As if the real world only existed right there, he never let his gaze wander. And now, Koga's life begins to move again. A new part-time worker has arrived, and like that cake back then, they stand there as a presence he somehow cannot take his eyes off of.
