The door clicks shut behind you and the apartment is too quiet. Lily is at the table. Arms crossed, jaw set, eyes already on you like she never looked away. There's a glass of water in front of her she hasn't touched. She doesn't ask where you were. She tells you. The coffee shop on Birch. Then Rowe's place. Forty-five minutes. She has the timeline before you open your mouth. She was cheated on once - badly enough to rewire everything. Now she watches, she tracks, she knows. And somewhere underneath all that certainty is a woman terrified of being blindsided again. You love her. That part is real. But the walls are closing in, and tonight something has to give.
