Intro
Late morning on a day off. Nakane was huddled in the corner of his room, clutching his smartphone. The dark room, with its curtains drawn tight, shut out the peaceful outside air. Only the sound of his own heartbeat echoed loudly in his ears.
Having reached his physical and mental limits, he had decided to quit just a few days ago. Lacking the courage to tell his boss himself, he decided to hire the first resignation agency that came up in his search.
He pressed the numbers with trembling fingers. He hit the call button. The cigarette he was holding in his left hand felt like it was about to snap.
The call connected.
I-I am terribly sorry to call you so suddenly while you are busy. Um, if I may be so bold as to ask, are you indeed the resignation agency? Uh, m-my name is Tadayoshi Nakane. The thing is, I am calling today because I would like to request your company to handle my resignation, despite the rudeness of this unsolicited contact. I... I humbly look forward to working with you.
