Characteristics | He is such a characterless individual that his only identity is his glasses. In short, both the characters in the story and the fans perceive his glasses as Shinpachi himself. Another identity is being the representative 'tsukkomi' (straight man) of Gintama. The problem is that he sometimes goes too far, frequently lashing out with harsh words or even physically striking other characters. Being an otaku is his third identity after glasses and tsukkomi. Shinpachi has been a fan of Terakado Tsuu since before she debuted as a national idol, back when she was an unknown busker. Now, however, his fandom has escalated to the level of a fanatic.

Appearance | A boy with black hair and brown eyes. Despite his young age, perhaps because he has honed his swordsmanship since childhood, he has a surprisingly slim yet toned muscular build. In the series, he is often mocked by those around him for having a plain, unremarkable appearance, and is frequently compared to official handsome characters like Okita Sougo or Hijikata Toshiro. Furthermore, he is the most sensible member of Yorozuya Gin-chan, making his personality cautious and non-aggressive. However, as Shimura Tae's brother, he has a low boiling point and is often shown getting angry. During these times, he doesn't hesitate to use informal speech regardless of hierarchy, and will even resort to grabbing collars or using force, showing a completely different side from his usual polite self. Despite his youth, he also plays the role of giving advice to other characters or snapping those in despair back to their senses.

Her favorite snack is pickled seaweed.

Appearance | As long as she keeps her mouth shut, she is a cute and refreshing young girl. She has exceptionally pale skin even for a Yato. Her concept is a 'China girl,' and she wears her hair in buns. Her hair is a pinkish-orange, and her eyes are blue. She usually wears a red or vermilion cheongsam.

Personality | A cheerful and bold tomboy. With her incredibly selfish, eccentric, and violent personality, she is always at the center of every incident. Contrary to her face, her inner self is like a middle-aged man—easygoing, tough, and one of the best trash-talkers in the manga. He even pours it into coffee and has been seen multiple times chugging a whole bottle of mayonnaise like a drink. He is also a heavy smoker who always poses while smoking. He doesn't let go of his cigarette even during intense battles.

Appearance | Recognized as one of the most handsome men in the series. He is a masculine type of beauty. His features include black hair, blue-grey eyes, sharp upturned eyes, and V-shaped bangs that meet in the middle. Similar to Gintoki's natural perm, it's said he can never escape the V-shaped bangs no matter what he does. Despite eating mayonnaise with every meal his entire life, he has a good physique.

Personality | Even if he grumbles when others ask for favors, he ends up doing them all. He is like this with everyone, but he is especially weak toward the vulnerable, such as children, minors, and women. Furthermore, when people around him get into trouble, he tries to protect them even if he has to take the blame alone. The problem is that he takes this to the extreme, sacrificing himself and neglecting his own body to protect others. He also acts prickly or pushes people away because he believes they will be unhappy if they love him. Contrary to his nickname and icy appearance, he is a huge crybaby and easily frightened. Perhaps because he is a strict, model-student type, he lives a life completely distanced from 'sexual desire.' He can't make sexual jokes at all. He says his type is women with high pride, because the more pride they have, the further they fall once he starts training them.

Appearance | A beautiful boy with light brown hair and red eyes, officially recognized in the original work as a 'flower boy' with a refreshing look. He has a slim yet toned muscular build. He generally has a cute impression but usually maintains a poker face. Aside from occasional smirks, he rarely laughs out loud, and even then, it's mostly a sneer.

Personality | Despite being a police officer, he is delinquent and selfish. He is stubborn, competitive, and hates to lose. He enjoys tormenting others but has zero immunity to being targeted himself. While he appears arrogant on the surface, he occasionally shows intense self-deprecation in serious moments. Surprisingly, he is very loyal and affectionate. He is extremely devoted to the people he likes and will risk his life for those he cares about. Also, he actually has a very strong sense of justice and duty as a police officer, being the member with the strongest sense of justice in the Shinsengumi. On the other hand, he casually self-deprecates. He tends to be obsessed with protecting things because he believes that if he fails to protect what he should, he is no different from a murderer rather than a policeman. While he is unfazed by killing countless enemies, he becomes visibly shaken when he fails to protect his target.

Appearance | He has dark brown hair and black eyes. Even though he is constantly teased for being a gorilla, he isn't ugly. To put it kindly, he has rugged, masculine features. Of course, he looks old for a 28-year-old, and his aura and behavior also make him seem older.

Personality | A hearty and cheerful leader. The fact that every member of the Shinsengumi is sincerely loyal enough to risk their lives for him, even though everyone knows he's actually a hopeless gorilla-stalker middle-aged man, speaks volumes about his character. He is an excessively good person with a vast capacity for tolerance, accepting all the diverse and eccentric members of the Shinsengumi. It is because of this man that the Shinsengumi can exist. Contrary to his appearance, which is often belittled as gorilla-like, he is frequently described as 'pure' with respect. In the Shinsengumi, he is ultimately a reliable pillar of support and no different from a father or an older brother to everyone.
