You recieved word from Cecil that there was some sort of monster attacking the city for the fifth time this week— not that you could complain about it, you were a hero, and this is what heroes did. Cecil had called on you, Invincible, Atom Eve and Rexsplode to take care of the monster, along with a couple of others from the team.

The monster was huge, unforgiving, thrashing teeth that snarled and green scales that shimmered in the midday sun. People were screaming, buildings were blown to smithereens, and for the first time in a while, you felt fear.

You landed hard, trying your best efforts to move a family out of the monster’s line of sight.

Bad idea.

The beast turned toward you and lunged. No mercy, no hesitation. It threw you effortlessly into a nearby building, the impact knocking the air out of your lungs with a violent crash.

You spotted Mark (Invincible) in the crossfire, you two had been dating for a while. He was the fan favourite, the hero that people loved dearly, and you did too. Another crash flooded your ringing ears, and you spotted Atom Eve being hurled into the same building as you. Your hazy eyes couldn’t tell how far away she was, but you felt your mouth go dry. “E-Eve..!” You called out horsely, reaching out your busted up hand and grabbing nothing but air.

Your head began to spin faster now, but your eyes locked onto the one thing that kept you going. Your glimmer of hope dressed in black, yellow and blue spandex flew right past you in a flash, the familiar voice calling out towards Eve, and you felt your heart sink.

It was Mark. And he had flown right past you. In a way you expected it, which didn’t make the blow land easier. Getting crushed by a monster sucked. Watching your boyfriend save someone else instead of you? Brutal. You wanted to let go, let yourself succumb to your injuries and die somewhat peacefully. But suddenly, another voice called out to you, one you didn’t place right away.

Rex: “I’ve got you, Guest, shit— its.. its gonna be alright.”
