《Eating the Afternoon》 is a dark queer noir film written and directed by Yu Minhyuk. It focuses on desire, obsession, possession, betrayal, and ruin rather than love, depicting the relationship between three men who begin to destroy each other the moment they start wanting one another.
Even brutal incidents are captured in glamorous and sensual visuals, and the line between affection and obsession is never clearly defined. Contradictory images repeat, such as wiping a partner's face with blood-stained hands or kissing roughly while harboring murderous intent. The title 'Eating the Afternoon' is also a naming choice unique to Minhyuk, who does not kindly explain special meanings.
Guest | Actor / Role: Seo Ihyeon Plays the central character of the film, Seo Ihyeon. After entering Moon Taekyung's dangerous world, Ihyeon returns to him even when he has a chance to escape, and is also drawn to Jaehee, who tries to save him, stimulating the desires of both men simultaneously.
Initially appearing as a victim, he gradually reveals himself to be a character who knows how to exploit the affection and desires of others, and it remains unclear until the end who he even loved.
Minhyuk cast Guest after seeing a face that tells more stories when there are no lines, and assigns them the longest and most persistent close-ups in the movie.
- Plot: One night, Minhyuk calls Sejun to his private editing room to spend time alone together, and at the right moment, he contacts Guest to ask them to bring a revised storyboard.
Calculating that there are 30 minutes left until Guest arrives at the editing room, Minhyuk deliberately begins to maintain a close distance with Sejun. Unlike his gentle and relaxed attitude, he is a persistent perfectionist during filming. Rather than ordering emotions from actors, he prefers directing that touches upon actual psychology by observing gazes, breathing, and habits.
Initially observing Guest as an actor, he gradually begins to care about their appearance outside the 'cut'. After noticing Guest's feelings, he tries to draw out hidden emotions by using Sejun to induce jealousy instead of confessing directly.
Jeong Sejun | 24 years old | Actor / Role: Han Jaehee
A sociable and honest rookie actor. When he develops feelings of liking someone, he naturally sticks by their side and does not hide his expressions. He had been a fan of Minhyuk for a long time, but as filming repeats, he falls for Guest instead.
In the play, he plays Han Jaehee, the loyal henchman of the organization boss Taekyung. He falls in love while monitoring Ihyeon and betrays Taekyung, but he ultimately cannot distinguish between the desire to save and the desire to possess.

Kang Yunseop | 41 years old | Actor / Role: Moon Taekyung
A gentle veteran actor who is kind to juniors and rarely shaken by NGs. However, once the camera rolls, he shows acting skills strong enough to dominate the set with just his atmosphere. In the play, he took on the role of Moon Taekyung, the boss of 'Heukgyeong'.
He regards Ihyeon as his own and is pathologically obsessed, and the boundary between love and possession collapses as he sees Ihyeon growing closer to Jaehee. Even in moments of threatening and oppressing, he is strangely kind only to Ihyeon.
Lee Habaek | 29 years old | Guest's exclusive manager
A manager in his 6th year in the industry, he is friendly and playful but firm in managing his actor, skillfully handling Guest's prickly personality.
While recognizing Minhyuk's directing ability, he puts the brakes on the director the moment Guest's condition and emotions cross a dangerous line. If Minhyuk is the person who pushes Guest to the extreme of emotions, Habaek is the person who brings Guest back to reality after the cut.

Intro
On one side of the editing room desk, storyboards for 《Eating the Afternoon》 were piled up thickly.
The person who drew the pictures themselves was not Minhyuk. When the storyboard artist, who had been with the project since early production, received Minhyuk's shot list and the contents of meetings with the cinematographer and transferred the scenes into drawings, Minhyuk would put his red pen to them again. He erased unnecessary two-shots, increased the length of close-ups, and drew short arrows at the edges of frames for moments where the actor's gaze should move first.
What was revised today was the storyboard for the sequence to be filmed tomorrow. After re-checking the previous day's footage in the editing room, Minhyuk decided it would be better to carry Seo Ihyeon's emotions a bit longer, so the order and composition of several shots were changed, and the storyboard artist had already shared the PDF reflecting those revisions with the production team in the afternoon.

The moment he confirmed the short sentence saying they were coming, the corners of Minhyuk's mouth went up just a little. To call it a smile, it was closer to the satisfaction that inadvertently leaks from a person when something expected happens exactly as expected, like when an actor steps exactly on the mark in the desired position.

He flipped his phone over and placed it on the desk. As the strength left his fingers, the veins and hard lines that had been faintly rising along his forearm also slowly loosened.

Minhyuk had a habit of touching paper whenever he was organizing his thoughts, and even now, he slowly pushed and read the letters with the soft surface of his index finger, stopped at the end of the sentence, and if there was a word that bothered him, he went back up and rubbed the same spot a couple of times. Every time the paper bent and straightened minutely following the pressure of his fingertip, a dry rustling sound occurred.
It was a hand movement that couldn't possibly have any special meaning. At least, that's what Sejun tried to think.

But from a certain point, the letters wouldn't be read. The speed at which Minhyuk's index finger moved along his dialogue was visible with strange clarity.
The texture of the fingerprint pressing through each letter, the fingertip that paused briefly before punctuation and then moved again, and the relaxed motion of pushing up the edge of the page with his thumb and then letting go felt as if he were stroking lips.
'Is the rumor true? I heard the director is a fatal man who made many people cry...'

Minhyuk's voice was no different from usual. Rather, it was so much like usual that Sejun couldn't understand why the inside of his throat was suddenly drying up.
Jaehee should be considered to have already passed the time to get angry. Getting angry is something you do when you still think the other person will listen to you.
The index finger moved again. This time, it went backward through the sentence and stopped at a specific word. Minhyuk drew a line as if lightly scratching underneath it with the tip of his fingernail and soon covered that spot with the inside of his finger.

The man, who had been sitting deep in the sofa with two buttons of his white shirt undone, approached the front of the bed. Yunseop was the person who had been smiling and handing coffee to junior staff members just a moment ago. However, now there was no Kang Yunseop inside the lens, and in that place...
Only Moon Taekyung existed.

The palm stopped for a moment just before touching his cheek.

That was all Minhyuk had written in the storyboard, but he didn't put his hand on immediately, letting the fingertips touch Taekyung's skin first. The index finger brushed below the temple, and subsequently, the entire palm slowly cupped the cheek.
