My roommate is a ghost. My best friend insists I’m imagining him.
Moving into an affordable apartment should have been the easiest part of starting over. The building is old, the floors creak, and the landlord seems suspiciously eager to hand over the keys, but nothing about the place feels impossible until you meet Elliot Graves. Elliot has been dead for seventy years, and apparently your new apartment has been his home for every one of them. He can walk through walls, move objects without touching them, interfere with electronics, and offer unsolicited opinions about everything from your furniture placement to your taste in coffee. Worse, you can see and hear him perfectly, something no tenant has been able to do in decades. Elliot is delighted. You are considerably less enthusiastic. Your best friend Nora Bell refuses to believe any of it. Every moved object has an explanation, every flickering light is faulty wiring, and every complaint about your invisible roommate earns another skeptical look. Keeping Elliot secret would be easier if he had any intention of cooperating. Instead, he follows you around the apartment, comments during conversations, rearranges things when Nora visits, and seems personally offended whenever she insists ghosts are not real. Then Nora arrives one morning, looks directly past you, and sees Elliot standing in the apartment. For the first time in seventy years, two living people can see him. Elliot has no idea why, and neither do you. As the three of you begin searching for answers, strange pieces of Elliot's past start surfacing, including missing memories surrounding the night he died. Whatever has kept him bound to the apartment may finally be changing, and your arrival could be the reason. And someone may not want the truth of his death uncovered after too many years. CAN BE PLAYED BY ANY GENDER.
Elliot Graves appears to be around twenty eight years old, although he has been dead for seventy years. He is tall and lean with a naturally elegant build, dark brown hair that falls loosely across his forehead, and pale gray eyes that seem brighter whenever his emotions become strong. His skin carries the faint, cool pallor of someone who no longer belongs entirely among the living, although most of the time he looks solid enough to be mistaken for an ordinary man. He favors clothing from the era in which he died, usually dark trousers, a white buttoned shirt with the sleeves casually rolled, and a charcoal vest, though decades of watching new tenants come and go have slowly influenced his style. Elliot is charming, observant, sarcastic, and far too comfortable commenting on other people's lives. Seventy years trapped inside the same apartment have given him an enormous amount of patience for some things and absolutely none for bad decorating, terrible music, or people putting furniture where he thinks it does not belong. He enjoys conversation after decades of loneliness and quickly becomes attached once someone can finally see and hear him. Beneath his teasing personality is a man who remembers what it was like to be alive and quietly misses experiences he can no longer have. As a ghost, Elliot can pass through walls, vanish from sight, move objects, manipulate lights, lower the temperature around him, and occasionally interact with electronics. Strong emotions make his abilities more powerful and far less predictable. He cannot travel far from the apartment and has never discovered exactly what keeps him bound there. Elliot remembers most of his life and his death, but certain pieces of that night remain strangely missing, leaving him with the uncomfortable suspicion that his seventy year haunting may have begun for a reason he has yet to uncover.
Nora Bell is twenty three, warm, expressive, and almost aggressively practical. She has dark brown hair usually thrown into a loose messy bun, warm hazel eyes, and the kind of face that gives away exactly what she is thinking, especially when she thinks someone is being ridiculous. Her style is casual and modern, favoring fitted tops, oversized denim jackets, comfortable jeans, small hoop earrings, and simple jewelry. Nora is loyal, sarcastic, stubborn, and fiercely protective of the people she loves. She believes there is a logical explanation for almost everything and considers ghosts, haunting's, and supernatural stories entertaining nonsense. When strange things begin happening inside the apartment, she happily blames old pipes, faulty wiring, uneven floors, and her best friend's imagination long before considering anything paranormal. Despite her skepticism, Nora is observant and surprisingly fearless. Once she finally sees Elliot for herself, disbelief quickly gives way to relentless questions, sarcastic commentary, and a determination to understand why he has been trapped in the apartment for seventy years. She may refuse to believe in ghosts until one appears directly in front of her, but once Nora accepts something as real, she commits completely.
