He ruffled his hair roughly in the middle of the living room. The clothes, covered in layers of lace and fitting tightly over his body, looked horribly out of place on his 189cm frame. It was his own fault for jumping at Guest's offer to legally get him out of the prison where he'd been locked up for three years and protect him. It hadn't even been a week since he started this. Instead of getting used to it, his only skill improving day by day was his ability to suppress his rage.
With nothing to his name and having been discarded like trash by the gang he trusted, he had nowhere else to hide. He knew for a fact that if he took even one step outside those thick iron doors, the bastards from the Viper Gang would be waiting with sharpened knives to slit his throat. In the end, Guest's residence—the only area they couldn't touch and which boasted ironclad security—was his only sanctuary. Even so, he never imagined the price of freedom would be acting as a maid.
While he was cleaning with a duster, the sound of the door lock clicking announced Guest's arrival. As Guest stepped in and took off his shoes, Hyundo forced his naturally fierce expression into a distorted, upward curve of the lips. It was a perfect business smile, though his eyes weren't laughing at all.
Welcome back. While you were out there wandering around and making money, Master, this ex-con stayed cooped up in the house and cleaned every single speck of dust.
Hyundo's eyes were filled with annoyance and humiliation. Oh, right. Use polite language. He only realized he'd broken the rule after the words had already left his mouth.
Guest said nothing. He simply glanced toward the front door lock as if he were about to kick Hyundo out that very moment. Hyundo grit his teeth and bowed his head.
... Ah, seriously, fuck... I'm sorry, Master. I'll be careful.
Seeing Guest's face crinkle with amusement as if he found the situation hilarious, Hyundo clenched his fists, a burning desire to beat him to a pulp welling up inside.
He stared blankly for a moment before snatching the manila envelope. Inside were documents including an employment contract, a cell phone, and another sheet with photos of various frilly maid outfits.
A maid? And what's with these pictures of clothes?
His eyes scanned the page, and his face contorted. And for a two-year contract, no less.
Hey, are you serious? You want me to wear this crap and scrub floors in your house for two years?
He was about to crumple the papers but stopped. The numbers written in the salary column caught his eye.
... Is this really how much you're paying per month?
His voice dropped half a tone. The look in his eyes changed as he smoothed out the paper to look again.
Why are there so many work rules? I have to do laundry and sorting recyclables too? Oh, for fuck's sake. There's 'meal preparation' here too? You want me to cook?
He clicked his tongue and tossed the papers onto the table.
You're basically saying you're going to put a leash on me, you bastard.
His eyes, visible through his red hair, narrowed menacingly. However, he couldn't hide the way his gaze kept drifting back to the signature line.
Was your taste always this twisted, huh?
He stood up abruptly and put a cigarette in his mouth. A spark flew from his lighter. He turned to leave, but the salary section on the documents weighed on his mind. It was too much money to refuse, and it guaranteed his safety.
Guest looked up at Hyundo for a moment, then let out a small laugh as he noticed Hyundo's eyes couldn't seem to leave the salary column. The pay was more than expected. It was a monthly salary equivalent to what others earned in a year. Leaning back against the sofa, Guest lightly pushed the contract toward Hyundo with his fingertips.
Leave if you don't like it.
He gave a casual shrug.
Go out there and get slaughtered by the Viper Gang. I won't stop you.*
The hand on the doorknob stopped. Cigarette smoke rose slowly toward the ceiling.
Slaughtered. That word pierced his back like a nail. He knew better than anyone that the Viper Gang bastards were scouring the streets for him. It had been a month since his release, and he was still drifting between saunas and parks without a single safe haven.
.........
He let go of the doorknob. He didn't turn around. With his back still turned, he took a deep drag of his cigarette.
Fuck, you really play dirty.
He exhaled the smoke and slowly turned around. That face looking up at him so calmly from the sofa grated on his nerves. He stomped back and flopped down in the opposite seat. He roughly grabbed the contract from the table.
Let's get one thing straight. I'm signing this not because I care about the money, but because I have nowhere else to go.
Having nowhere to go was the biggest reason, but the money was definitely part of it. If he saved up and ran, finding a hideout would be much easier than it was now while he was broke. He picked up a pen and tapped through the work rules. In the final signature box, he signed his name in his own handwriting.
And one more thing. Don't think you can look down on me just because you put me in those clothes, you prick.*
