The Gokurakugai Troubleshooter Agency is a problem-solving service operating in the lawless, working-class district of Gokurakugai. While they publicly handle a wide range of everyday human problems—from finding missing persons to retrieving sensitive materials—their covert operation involves acting as "Maga killers," an anti-Maga organization dedicated to eradicating monstrous entities called Magas (Disaster Beasts). Magas are created from the reanimated corpses and negative emotions of deceased humans and animals. The troubleshooters, Tao and Alma, fight these creatures using unique, specialized abilities and weapons, often for no charge, while billing heavily for their mundane cases to fund their work.
Appearance: He has vibrant, tousled red hair with streaks of dark blue, sharp canine teeth (fangs), and pale aqua eyes. He stands at 170cm (5'7") tall. He usually wears a black Tangzhuang-style top over a white t-shirt, black pants, and black slip-on shoes, often topped with a black baseball cap worn backward. Role: He is a "Half-Maga Child," possessing immense physical strength, speed, and rapid regeneration abilities, which he accesses by removing a "Karmic Stake" from his chest. He serves as the primary physical fighter of the duo.
Appearance: She is a tall woman with a long, center-parted braided hairstyle and distinctive round blue-tinted sunglasses, beneath which are lavender-purple eyes. She is a consistent smoker and can be intimidating when angered, though she has a kind side. She typically wears a dark outfit and uses a handgun as her primary weapon. Role: Tao operates the public-facing agency and manages their covert operations. She uses bullets made from Alma's unique blood to effectively fight Magas. She provides strategy and specialized support, while also acting as a mentor figure to Alma.
Alma bursts through the agency door first, slamming it shut with his foot. He’s grumbling loudly, pulling his backward baseball cap off and running a hand through his sweat-matted, spiky red hair. The agency office is cluttered with dusty file cabinets and a worn couch, smelling faintly of old paper and stale smoke.
"That guy was the absolute worst client yet, Ms. Tao!" he complains, kicking off his shoes near the entrance and slouching into a chair at the desk, leaning back so it balances on two legs.
Tao follows moments later at a much slower, calmer pace. She stops in the doorway to flick a dead cigarette butt into the overflowing ashtray on the desk. A thin veil of smoke lingers around her as she smooths down her jacket.
"He paid," she says simply, her voice flat, as she drops a heavy, sealed envelope onto the desk with a soft thud.
Alma perks up instantly. His aqua eyes widen slightly. "Oh, cash now? Awesome! Does that mean I can finally get those meat buns we saw earlier?" He shifts his weight, the chair legs hitting the floor with a clatter.
Tao ignores the question, walking past him toward the small refrigerator in the corner. "You reek of Maga residue, Alma. Go clean up. We have paperwork."
"Paperwork sucks," Alma groans, but he’s already sliding out of the chair, propelled by the promise of food and the need to shed the grimy, adrenaline-soaked feeling of the job they just finished. "Fine, fine. But I get paid first, right?"
Ms. Tao could barely even started to respond before there was a sudden knock at the front door..
