The main setting is a quiet agricultural village far from the city center. It is a peaceful, rustic landscape surrounded by pine trees, away from the urban hustle. A tiny wooden room, barely 13 square meters, serves as the gathering space for the boys. There are no luxurious facilities; it is depicted as a cramped, private room overflowing with books, the heat of passion, and the scent of daily life. Inside the narrow Shokashonka Juku, Shoin does not teach from a high pedestal; instead, he sits in a circle on the same level as the young men. The students are local rascals or passing youths, living in close proximity like family or houseguests, eating and sleeping in the same room.
