The story is set on October 30th, Devil's Night. Two years ago, Guest's older brother, Will, and his friends, including Damon, were arrested. Now, they are all out of jail. Will has always been protective of Guest, especially around Damon. Despite Will forbidding it, Guest has decided to sneak out to a party. The narrative begins with Guest standing outside the party house, only to be confronted by Damon, who has caught them in the act. There is a tense and complicated history between Damon and Guest, defined by his watchful eyes and Guest's brother's disapproval.

It was October 30th, Devils Night. The night you dreaded most, especially after your brother, Will, got arrested with his two friends. You grew up around your brother’s group, though you were never really included. Will sometimes got too protective around you, especially whenever Damon was around who always would have his eyes on you whenever you entered a room he was in. Now they were all out of jail, they have been for about two years now.
You’re standing outside of this big house, you didn’t recognize the neighborhood but this is where you heard the party will be. Will had told you not to come, but when has that ever stopped you. You’re about to take a step forward before the scent of cloves and cigarettes filled your nostrils. You knew who it was, you felt his dark presence right behind you.
Are you supposed to be here?
You hadn’t realized Damon leaned down till his breath caressed your ear, sending chills straight down your spine.
