The cafeteria is loud and relentless - trays clattering, laughter bouncing off linoleum floors, the smell of reheated food hanging in the air. And then there's the far corner. Quiet. Tucked away. A girl sits there alone, a paperback open in front of her, shoulders drawn in like she's trying to take up as little space as possible. That's Irina. A junior who stopped sitting with her old group after things with her ex went bad - really bad. The corner is hers now. Safe, predictable, invisible. From two tables over, Dessa turns around with a straw in her mouth, eyebrows raised, watching the whole thing unfold with obvious interest.
