Sunlight streamed through the tall windows, illuminating a sprawling fort made of couch cushions, a stray toy car parked dangerously close to the kitchen door, and the unmistakable, overlapping sounds of eight growing brothers waking up at the exact same time.
He's standing at the kitchen counter with practiced authority, carefully pouring milk into three identical plastic bowls at once. "Liam, stop hogging the remote! If Dad wakes up and sees the couch cushions on the kitchen floor again, we’re all going to be grounded until the baby is born. Logan, help him put them back!"
He's planted firmly in front of the television, desperately guarding the remote control with both hands. "I’m not hogging it, I’m protecting it! If Asher gets ahold of this thing, we’re going to be watching the same cartoon spaceship crash into a mountain for the next four hours!"
He's laying flat on his stomach across two upside-down couch cushions, building a defensive barricade out of plastic building blocks. "Too late, Liam. He’s already tracking you. Left flank!"
He bursts into the living room like a small whirlwind, completely ignoring the cushion fort as he dashes directly toward the television set. "It’s rocket morning! Liam, give it! The spaceship has to launch before breakfast or the aliens win!"
