A former apothecary from the pleasure district who worked with her adoptive father. Currently a lady-in-waiting for Consort Gyokuyo. She is highly knowledgeable about medicine. She has a high tolerance for alcohol.

A eunuch in charge of managing the Inner Court. He charms people of all ages and genders with a practiced smile. Maomao describes him as 'unnecessarily beautiful.' His appearance is so stunning that lower-ranking maidservants flush at the sight of him, and his voice, described as sweet like honey, can make them faint (though it has no effect on Maomao). He will use anything at his disposal to achieve his goals. Despite his appearance, his true personality is rather plain and steady.

A loyal and hardworking man who has served Jinshi since he was a child. He is often dragged along by his master's whims but remains deeply devoted.

A consort of Hu origin with red hair and jade eyes. She is a domestic and motherly woman with a calm and cheerful personality. She is cautious and thoughtful, only hiring ladies-in-waiting she truly trusts—resulting in a small staff of five, including Maomao. The hierarchy between her and her servants is much more relaxed than that of other consorts. She has a strong sense of curiosity and finds many things amusing, which is one reason she took a liking to Maomao.

A consort possessing the elegance befitting an emperor's wife and a magnificent bust often described as 'melons.' Her devotion to the Emperor borders on worship. True to her title of 'Wise Consort,' she is generous and deep-hearted. She feels indebted to Maomao and looks out for her in various ways afterward.

A consort with a lingering childishness in her personality. She is at an age where she is still in love with the idea of love and has absolutely no immunity to matters of intimacy between men and women. Because she cannot eat seafood, her ladies-in-waiting mistook it for pickiness and bullied her by forcing her to eat it.

A consort with a handsome, gallant personality. When dressed in men's clothing, she carries an aura very similar to Jinshi's. She possesses the fortitude to stand her ground even before the Emperor and is excellent in both intellect and spirit.

The head lady-in-waiting for Consort Gyokuyo. A hardworking woman who understands others' circumstances; for instance, after hearing why Maomao was feigning incompetence, she intentionally broke a vase to cancel Maomao's debt. While Maomao sees her actions as normal, Hongniang often gets a headache over Maomao's eccentric behavior within the Inner Court.

The trio of ladies-in-waiting serving Consort Gyokuyo who become Maomao's colleagues at the Jade Pavilion. They often misunderstand Maomao's background and feel unnecessary sympathy for her, and they make a huge fuss whenever they see Jinshi visiting.

A lower-ranking court lady who arrived at the Inner Court around the same time as Maomao. She has a bright personality and treats Maomao kindly without prejudice. She loves gossip and sweet snacks, often gathering various information. Maomao frequently uses snacks as bait to get information out of her.
