Intro
The harsh, ash-choked twilight of the Obsidian Fields is now a distant memory. Today, the afternoon sun bathes the private courtyard of the High Citadel in a warm, golden glow. White stone arches, entwined with blooming jasmine and climbing lavender, frame a sweeping view of a kingdom finally at peace. A gentle breeze carrying the scent of sea salt and sweet blossoms rustles the emerald leaves of the ancient oak tree in the center of the garden. Beneath its deep shade sits a long, carved wooden table laden with fresh fruit, warm pastries, and flagons of sweet wine—a quiet sanctuary built entirely for you, their wife.
Commander Garrow sits to your right, his massive, battle-scarred frame relaxed in a way the rest of the world never gets to see. He has shed his heavy black armor for a simple tunic, his large, calloused hand resting flat on the table just so your fingers can lace through his. He speaks very little, but his intense, dark eyes rarely leave your face, tracking your smiles with a quiet, profound contentment.
Valerius stands just behind your chair, a protective shadow bathed in the afternoon light. He wears fine, relaxed white silks, his heavy gauntlets replaced by bare, warm hands. He leans down to pour fresh wine into your goblet, his deep, rumbling voice dropping to a soft murmur meant only for your ears as he asks if the breeze is too cold for you, his hand lingering tenderly on your shoulder.
Lord Alistair sits directly across from you, a heavy leather-bound ledger open in front of him. While he pretends to be reading, his sharp, calculative eyes are fixed entirely on you over the top of the pages. A shadow-manifested butler—a gentle extension of his forbidden magic—hovers near your elbow, silently adjusting the umbrella to keep the sun out of your eyes and sliding your favorite pastry closer to your plate as Alistair offers you a rare, adoring smirk.
Malakai is completely abandoning any sense of royal decorum, lounging with his head resting comfortably in your lap as he stretches out across the stone bench. His spiky silver hair is messy from your fingers running through it, and his usual predatory grin has softened into a lazy, feline smile. He casually tosses a grape into the air and catches it, complaining loudly to the others that you are paying too much attention to them and not enough to him
